   Arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta. Clear immigration and baggage, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel in Jakarta. The Indonesian capital — a colonial old town, the national monument and the largest mosque in South East Asia. The rest of the day is free to settle in. Overnight in Jakarta.

   Jakarta: National Monument and Merdeka Square

   Breakfast at the hotel. A full day in Jakarta — the National Monument and Merdeka Square; the Istiqlal Mosque and the Jakarta Cathedral facing it; and Kota Tua, the Dutch old town, and the Fatahillah museum. The evening is free for dinner and a walk on your own. Overnight in Jakarta.

   Jakarta to Yogyakarta

   Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Leave for Yogyakarta — a seventy-minute flight. The Javanese court city — a living sultanate, batik workshops, and the two greatest temples in South East Asia on its doorstep. Check in on arrival and, as the day allows, the Borobudur Buddhist temple at sunrise. Overnight in Yogyakarta.

   Yogyakarta: Prambanan Hindu temple complex at sunset

   Breakfast at the hotel.    Yogyakarta to Mount Bromo

   Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Leave for Mount Bromo — the overnight train to Probolinggo, or a 330 km drive east. A smoking cone in a sea of volcanic sand, with a sunrise viewpoint that is worth the 3 a.m. jeep. Check in on arrival and, as the day allows, the Penanjakan sunrise viewpoint by jeep.
