    Haridwar to Barkot via Mussoorie

    Meet your driver in Haridwar early in the morning and set off for the Yamuna valley. The road runs through Dehradun and climbs to Mussoorie, where you can pause for tea and a look across the Doon valley before continuing past Kempty Falls.     Barkot – Janki Chatti – Yamunotri Darshan – Barkot

    An early start after breakfast, or with a packed breakfast if you leave before the kitchen opens. Drive along the Yamuna to Janki Chatti, the road head for Yamunotri, where the vehicle parks and the trek begins. The climb to the temple is about 5–6 km on a paved but steep path; ponies and palanquins are available at the base for those who would rather not walk, and can be arranged locally on the spot.     Barkot to Haridwar — departure

    After breakfast, check out and begin the return journey down the Yamuna valley. The road retraces yesterday's route through Nainbagh and back up to Mussoorie, where a stop for lunch and a last view of the hills is easy to fit in, then descends through Dehradun to the plains.
